Itinerary

Day 1: Kigali → Gisenyi → Goma → Virunga National Park

Your safari begins in Kigali with a morning pickup by Safari Vibes Africa. Enjoy a scenic drive through Rwanda’s rolling hills toward the Gisenyi–Goma border.

After border formalities, continue into the Democratic Republic of Congo and transfer to Virunga National Park.
At the park headquarters, you’ll receive a short briefing from park staff before heading to your lodge.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Virunga National Park

Wake up early for one of Africa’s most emotional wildlife experiences. After breakfast, meet your ranger guides for a gorilla trekking briefing.

You’ll hike through thick forest, following signs of a habituated mountain gorilla family. The trek can take between 1 and 5 hours depending on their location.
Once found, you’ll spend one unforgettable hour quietly observing the gorillas in their natural home.

Return to the lodge in the afternoon to relax and reflect on the experience.

Day 3: Nyiragongo Volcano Hike & Overnight at the Summit

After breakfast, transfer to the trailhead of Mount Nyiragongo. With armed rangers and experienced guides, begin your steady ascent up the volcano.

The hike takes about 5–6 hours, passing through changing landscapes as you climb higher. By late afternoon, reach the summit shelters.
As night falls, witness the dramatic glow of the lava lake — a powerful and humbling sight few people ever experience.

Overnight: Nyiragongo summit shelters

Day 4: Descend Nyiragongo → Goma → Kigali

Wake up early to enjoy sunrise views over the crater. After breakfast, descend the volcano and drive back to Goma.

Cross the border back into Rwanda and continue to Kigali, arriving in the late afternoon.
Your safari ends with a drop-off at your hotel or Kigali International Airport.

Yes. All activities are conducted with official Virunga National Park rangers and follow strict safety protocols. Routes and schedules are approved daily based on current conditions.

The hike is moderately challenging. You don’t need technical climbing skills, but a reasonable level of fitness is recommended. Porters are available if needed.

You’ll stay about 7 meters away, following international wildlife viewing guidelines. Rangers ensure both visitor and gorilla safety at all times.

Sturdy hiking boots, warm layers for the summit night, rain jacket, gloves, flashlight or headlamp, and a small backpack. We’ll send you a full packing list after booking.

The best months are June–September and December–February, when trails are drier and hiking conditions are easier.
