Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – City & Gisozi Visit
Arrive in Kigali and meet your Safari Vibes Africa guide. After a warm welcome, enjoy a short city tour. Visit the Gisozi Genocide Memorial for an insightful introduction to Rwanda’s history and resilience. Overnight in Kigali.
Day 2: Kigali – Nyanza Royal Palace – Volcanoes National Park
Drive south to Nyanza to explore the former royal residence and learn about Rwanda’s monarchy and traditions. Continue north through scenic hills to Volcanoes National Park. Settle in and prepare for your gorilla trek. Overnight near the park.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park
An early start for your gorilla trekking adventure. After a briefing by park rangers, hike through bamboo forests in search of a gorilla family. Spend a magical hour observing them in their natural habitat. Return to the lodge for rest and reflection. Overnight near Volcanoes.
Day 4: Volcanoes National Park – Lake Kivu (Gisenyi)
After breakfast, travel west to Lake Kivu. The drive offers stunning views of terraced hills and rural life. Arrive in Gisenyi and enjoy a relaxed afternoon by the lake. Optional sunset walk or boat ride. Overnight in Gisenyi.
Day 5: Leisure Day at Lake Kivu
Enjoy a full day at leisure. Swim, relax on the lakeshore, explore local markets, or take an optional boat trip to nearby islands. This day is all about slowing down and soaking in Rwanda’s peaceful side. Overnight in Gisenyi.
Day 6: Lake Kivu – Kigali – Departure
After breakfast, drive back to Kigali. Depending on your flight time, enjoy last-minute shopping or a café stop before transfer to the airport. End of the tour.

How difficult is gorilla trekking?
Gorilla trekking can be moderately challenging. The terrain is hilly and sometimes muddy, but you move at a slow pace with regular stops. You don’t need to be extremely fit—just reasonably active and prepared to walk.
How close do we get to the gorillas?
You’ll usually be about 7 meters away, sometimes closer if the gorillas move toward you. Rangers ensure the experience is safe for both visitors and gorillas.
How many people trek one gorilla family?
Each gorilla family is visited by a maximum of 8 people per day, making the experience exclusive and respectful.
What should I wear for the trek?
Wear long-sleeved shirts, long trousers, hiking boots, and carry gloves and a rain jacket. Neutral colors are best. A small backpack and walking stick (provided at the park) are very helpful.
