FAQ
When is the best time for this tour?
This safari is carefully designed around the Ndutu calving season, which runs from December to March. During this period, over 500,000 wildebeest calves are born on the short grass plains of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
From our experience guiding safaris in this region, February is often the peak month, when births happen daily and predator activity is at its highest. However, each month offers a slightly different experience:
- December–January: Herds arrive and begin calving
- February: Peak births and intense predator interactions
- March: Lush landscapes and continued wildlife activity
We plan your route and daily game drives based on real-time wildlife movement, not fixed assumptions—this is what gives you the best possible sightings.
Is this safari suitable for photographers?
Yes—this is one of the best wildlife photography safaris in Africa, especially during calving season.
Ndutu offers:
- Open plains with clear visibility and minimal vegetation obstruction
- Soft, golden light during early mornings and late afternoons
- Opportunities to capture predator-prey interactions, which are rare in many other.
Our guides are trained not just to find animals, but to position the vehicle with the sun behind you, giving you the best lighting angles.
We also allow flexible timing during sightings, so you don’t feel rushed when capturing important moments.
What fitness level is needed?
No special fitness level is required for this safari.
Most activities are game drives done while seated in the vehicle, making it suitable for:
- Families
- Older travelers
- First-time safari guests
There may be optional short walks around lodges or camps, but these are not physically demanding. If you have any specific mobility concerns, we can adjust the experience to ensure your comfort.
Are the accommodations comfortable?
Yes—accommodation is carefully selected based on location, comfort, and service quality.
You will stay in a mix of:
- Luxury lodges in key like the Serengeti National Park
- Well-appointed tented camps in Ndutu for closer wildlife access
All accommodations include:
- En-suite bathrooms with hot showers
- Comfortable beds and quality linens
- Freshly prepared meals
- Professional and welcoming staff
Staying close to wildlife areas means less travel time and more time on game drives, which significantly improves your overall safari experience.
Can I extend the trip?
Absolutely. Many of our guests choose to extend their safari with a beach holiday in Zanzibar.
This combination works perfectly:
- Safari gives you adventure and wildlife
- Zanzibar offers relaxation, sandy beaches, and warm Indian Ocean
We can handle everything for you, including:
- Domestic flights
- Hotel recommendations and booking
- Beach activities like snorkeling, dolphin tours, and cultural tours
What should I pack?
Packing well makes a big difference in your comfort during the safari.
We recommend:
- Neutral-colored clothing (khaki, beige, green) to blend with the environment
- Light layers for daytime and a warm jacket for early mornings and evenings
- Comfortable shoes
- Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a wide-brim hat
- Camera with extra batteries and memory cards
- Binoculars for better wildlife viewing
Avoid bright colors and dark blue/black, as they can attract insects or disturb wildlife.
